Our Paradevatha "Bhagavathy" is in the concept of "VANADURGA" who is depicted as protector of forests, wilderness and natural landscapes. she is the soft version of Ma-Durga or Kaali. |
The famous Chennas Mana Namboothirees were worshipping some of the "upadevathaas" in the Mana |
Chennas Mana was believed to have been situated at Chendamangalam near the present |
premises of the Temple. |
The Kozhikote Nair family was also staying close to the Chennas Mana. |
When Chennas Namboodiris were shifting from Chendamngalam to Guruvayoor, the head Namboothiri of |
Chennas Mana tried to take the bhagavathy with them to Guruvayoor. |
It is believed that the Bhagavathy refused to move out from the present location so the Chennas Mana gifted |
the Bhagavathy to the Kozhikote family. |
From that day onwards the Kozhikote family members started worshiping the deity. |
